Modeling Realtiy with Virtual Words
Virtual Worlds can have many different ways in which it can be used whether its with video games, training within the medical and military field, or even testing out prototypes. With all these new technological advancements, almost any thing is possible virtually. Think of it as a "test run" before the real thing for some, where as it can also be used as "another life" where users can use their imagination to create a world for them selves.
An example of a pro towards a Virtual World is how it "mimics" the real world. This can be great strategy for the medical field as well as the military field. Doctors and nurses can take advantage of how much of a realistic path that a Virtual World can offer and use it to train themselves with different treatments and so forth. An example of this would be from the article "Avatar II:The Hospital". In the article it stays how nursers were able to effectively help patients because of the preparation they had. This also goes for the military where they can use the Virtual World to test out different devices and see the outcomes that can come from the test run. A pro that can be connected with this would be that it can improve effectiveness and efficiency.
A disadvantage towards the Virtual World would be lagging. As most technological advancements face bugs, lagging is one situation that is quiet common especially when there is an over load of users. Another disadvantage of a Virtual World would be the amount of time it takes to create it. To create something thats so close to be the real thing, it takes much patience and time because of the importance of detail.
I believe Virtual Worlds foster creativity in way that lets people widen their imagination. In the article "After Second Life, Can Virtual Life's Get A Reboot?" it states how kids have the ability to use their imagination and connect with other games through the game of Minecraft.
I think the future of Virtual Worlds will bring more positive effects. There's still much more growing in the field that has to be done whether its to make the process faster or make it more realistic appealing to the human eye.
